Compulsory Earthquake (DASK)

Compulsory Earthquake Insurance, also known as DASK, is an insurance policy that covers material damages to your buildings caused by earthquakes, as well as risks arising from earthquake-related fire, explosion, tsunami, and landslide.

According to the Law on Catastrophe Insurance No. 6305, residences that fall within the scope of Property Ownership Law No. 634 and are subject to DASK must have a Compulsory Earthquake Insurance policy issued.  Therefore, DASK— or Compulsory Earthquake Insurance — is not only a legal obligation, but also a personal responsibility toward our own lives and our loved ones.

Things to consider when purchasing Compulsory Earthquake Insurance

When taking out your Compulsory Earthquake Insurance policy, make sure to accurately provide your UAVT code or address, and enter details such as the building construction type and apartment square meter size correctly and completely. If this information is inaccurately declared, it may lead to complications in the event of damage.

Buildings that meet the above conditions, buildings with established construction servitude, buildings that have not yet been type-revised in the land registry and whose title appears as land, etc., cooperative houses for which no title deed allocation has been made yet, cooperative houses without independent title deeds, and residences built before 2000 can be insured based on the policyholder's declaration and the land title deed information.

DASK (Compulsory Earthquake Insurance) covers material damages directly caused by earthquakes, and earthquake-related fires, explosions, and landslides, up to the insured amount. It is a mandatory insurance product and only covers damage to the building. Household contents are not included.

In contrast, a home insurance policy covers both the building and its contents against not only earthquakes but also fire, theft, flood, deluge, internal water damage, and other risks specified in the policy. It is an optional insurance product.

Compulsory Earthquake Insurance can be purchased either by the tenant or the property owner. However, in both cases, the policy must be issued in the name of the property owner, who is considered the insured. Regardless, indemnity is paid to the person designated as the “Beneficiary” in the land registry.
